For this special piece, I was inspired by American Arts and Crafts Movement pottery. Often, the vases would feature leaves undulating around the rim, sometimes suspended off of the form. However, they often had heavy, sometimes thick matte glazes. I wanted something in my style that incorporated floating leaves, pierced flowers, while maintaining a light and delicate appearance.
The glaze could not have come out of the kiln more stunning. It has crystals and so many shades of blue, green, and specks of brown.
It was made on the potters wheel, carved by hand, smoothed, and glazed by hand. Hours of love and careful attention went into this statement piece.
